The Story Behind Northwest Passages

I've always loved to travel. Oberyn Martell from 'Game of Thrones' put it nicely: "It is a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don't want to be most of us." That's always been my philosophy in life. Ever since I've had disposable income, travel and experiences have been the main thing I've spent my wages on. I've visited a variety of countries, from Tanzania to Bermuda, and the USA to Germany. I've made friends, seen awe-inspiring sights, and learnt a lot about different cultures and, most importantly for you, the travel industry and how to navigate it.

That's why I started Northwest Passages. A friend that I met entirely by chance on a flight to Los Angeles in 2025 introduced me to Inteletravel UK, a company that gives people the infrastructure and training to enter the travel industry as an Independent Travel Agent. I had previously been working as a teacher whilst studying for my law degree at Lancaster University, two things that I love and am still doing alongside this, but the prospect of engaging with another of my biggest passions and using my knowledge to help people achieve their travel dreams was too good to pass up.
I chose the name 'Northwest Passages' as a nod to two major places in my life. Firstly, the beautiful Northwest of England, with the gorgeous scenery of the Lake District and the history behind cities like Lancaster, where I've made my home. And secondly, as a reference to 'Northwest Passage', a folk song by Stan Rogers that is an unofficial anthem in Canada. I lived in Toronto for a while a few years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life. It's that background that I bring into this business, and my personal connection to my own travels around the world greatly informs the work I do for my clients.
Now, you may be thinking; "That's a lovely story, Sam, but why should I use a travel agent when I could just do it myself?" And that's a very good question. Many people love the planning elements behind their trips and will spend hours researching deals, hotels, flights, activities, and more. But for many people, they don't have the time, inclination or knowledge to put together a full holiday and find the best deals. Most people work full-time jobs, and some are planning bigger events like weddings or anniversaries, and planning a trip adds another major consideration to their already heavy plates.
People who decide to book their holiday through an agent like myself can simply tell me what their holiday dreams are - everything from a five-star, all-inclusive trip to the Bahamas, to a quick weekend getaway at a bed & breakfast in the Cotswolds - and I'll do the rest. I have access to exclusive deals and packages from some of the biggest names in the travel industry, such as:
Disney Destinations
Royal Caribbean
TUI
Jet2Holidays
P&O Cruises
and many more.
This means I can find you deals on package holidays and trips that ensure you get the best trip for the best price. I would then present the options that best fit your desires and you make the decision. For those of you who want access to the exclusive deals and packages offered by my partners but still want the experience of planning the trip yourself, have no fear! You can use the 'Browse Deals' option on my website, or head to samcarruthers.inteletravel.uk to view all of the many options available to you.
Booking with a travel agent not only gives you peace of mind before your holiday, but during it as well. Much of my practical travel experience has come through trial and error, with an emphasis on the 'error' part. If, heaven forbid, something were to go wrong on your trip, having a travel agent means having an experienced professional on-hand to negotiate with travel suppliers and sort out your problems, ensuring that your trip stays on track and you have the experience you were hoping for.
I hope you'll choose Northwest Passages to help you make your travel dreams a reality! I aim to provide a service tailored to what you need, with personal vacation planning fuelled by experience in the industry and my own love for travel. I want every one of my clients to experience the same thrill of seeing the world that I get, so you can be sure your happiness and satisfaction is my utmost priority. If you want to get started planning your dream getaway, head to the Contact page on my website to tell me all about it, or if you'd like to browse exclusive deals from my travel partners yourself, you can find that on my website too.
I'd also recommend subscribing to this blog - alongside travel tips and advice, I'll be posting a new exclusive deal from my trusted travel partners every week, so if you want to see the best prices and packages the travel world has to offer, head to the form on this website to subscribe!
